"IKEA Bulgaria - IKEA is opening doors in Sofia, Bulgaria."
The first IKEA store in Bulgaria will officially open its doors at 10 am on 20 September 2011 in Sofia.
IKEA Bulgaria will be the 326th store of the Swedish furniture chain. IKEA goes back to 1943 when
its founder Ingvar Kampar started the business in a Swedish province. Now the company has stores
in 38 countries all over the world. In 2010 the chain generated sales of 23,8 billion euro and the
number of visitors worldwide amounted to 699 million people.
IKEA Bulgaria is located on Sofia’s southern ring road close to Bistritsa road. It will offer more than
7 500 products including furniture, lighting and all kinds of accessories. Within the area of IKEA
Bulgaria (30 000 sq.m.) there will be a parking with 1 200 parking spaces, a café and a restaurant
offering typical Swedish dishes.
Part of the services that IKEA Sofia will offer is design and fitting of furniture. It will also provide
delivery services to its customers. Parents who have come to the store with their babies can benefit
from the children playgrounds and the babysitters available. IKEA Bulgaria is also equipped with a
special room for mothers who need to take care of their babies.
The total investment for IKEA Bulgaria exceeds 50 million euro. An investor is the Greek company
Fourlis, which owns the franchise rights for IKEA stores in Bulgaria, Greece and Cyprus. The company
expects at least 1, 5 million visitors in IKEA Sofia during its first year and about 10% of the market
share. Most of the goods in IKEA Sofia will be produced from Bulgarian materials, which should
significantly stimulate the development of Bulgarian industry. The company believes that there is a
great potential for development in Bulgaria and is also considering the opening of another store in
Varna.
Since 3 September IKEA Bulgaria distributes its catalogue for 2012, which will reach over 750 000
households in the regions of Sofia, Plovdiv, Pazardzhik, Pernik and Kyustendil. What is unique about
the catalogue is that it spreads at the beginning of every September and the prices remain the same
for the next one year. IKEA Bulgaria’s catalogue will be valid from August 2011 to August 2012. In
this way it becomes a useful tool when planning purchases and expenditures for furniture.
So, the opening of IKEA Bulgaria is anticipated with a great interest and more than 30 000 people are
expected to attend.
